[Following the conversation where Squall kept warning Rinoa not to get into trouble ~~which is a waste of time but whatever~~, she decides to mess with him by calling him with reports as if she were on some dangerous operation.

Her first call comes about an hour after she spoke to him last. If she gets his voicemail she just leaves a message, and if he happens to answer she begins to speak immediately when she hears the click when he picks up.]

Timber Wolf checking in, sir. We're about to cross over enemy lines and there are no casualties to report as of yet.

Do you copy Garden Kitty?

[....................................]

What? [He has no idea what she's talking about, and she had better not be calling him a kitty.]

[Oh yeah she is. A bit grumpy kitty. ... though the name was mostly made to get a reaction out of him.]

We've infiltrated the Loki base and there doesn't seem to be any signs of hostility. How do you suggest we proceed, Garden Kitty. Over. [She adds that last bit in, biting back a giggle, and also wishes she would have used it the first time.]

[She has to be messing with him. And he's trying to deal with others from the Loki responding to him, and she's doing all this weird... stuff.]

(Wasn't this her idea?) Why are you asking me this? [NO SIGN OF SAYING OVER.]

Because you're the expert. Over. [Of course she's messing with him. She'll latch desperately onto any excuse to talk to him.]

I'm not any expert. [That comes with a groan.]

You seem like an expert to me. [She ditches the game briefly because there is something serious she wants to tell him.]

I ran into Selphie on my way over here. Have you heard from her on your post?

[Thank goodness. He could do with a little more normal of a conversation. Enough to ignore the whole expertise thing.]

Yeah. She checked in pretty quickly after you left.

[That means he might have spoken with Selphie soon after Rinoa did.]

.... What did she tell you?

She told me who she knew was over on the Loki. [Pause.] There's a couple of us.

[And it's about this time that Rinoa realizes that in her excitement of running into Selphie she did not ask many questions about who was on the Loki after the topic of the conversation went to how Selphie knew multiple Squalls. Oh man, and she also lost all her posters too. afasklfjkasd. Welp. Maybe one of the gang will just find them floating around and call.

Oh well. Back to the issue at hand.] Did she tell you anything else? [Why you sound so worried Rinoa?]

No. [Longer pause. A suspicious one, even.] ... Why?

Oh. [Mild disappointment was heard in her tone. But tries to cover it up with a little too much innocence.] Huh? What? Nothing. I was just wondering if she had told you anything else.

[QUICKLY CHANGE THE SUBJECT!]

Have you heard from anyone else?

Whatever. [Oooookay. Squall will admit that was weird, but also pretty much something Rinoa would do. He brushes it off and proceeds to answer her questions.]

Irvine and... Seifer. [Let's leave out the whole "talking to himself" part of his day.]

... [She caught that short pause, and hesitates herself but finally can't resist asking more questions.] How are they?

Irvine's fine. [Notice the absence of someone he doesn't want to talk about?]

[Of course the person he doesn't want to talk about is the person she wants to hear about. She's also afraid that Squall's avoidance of mentioning him only means that Seifer really is an enemy to them.]

Good. [She is glad to hear that Irvine is okay. Not that she doubted he would be.] I'll let you know if I find anyone else.

[She adds with a smile.] Timber Wolf, out.

[The sad thing is that it's because Seifer isn't their enemy being the reason he doesn't want to talk about him. He doesn't know what to say. Squall didn't know what to say to Seifer before about it all, having conflicted feelings about the Seifer from back home and the one from the Loki. Saying something about it to Rinoa was harder.]

... Good luck. [It's about all he can say, caught on thinking about Seifer. Damn.]

[Hay thar. Guess who's calling. Hay boy. She knows you're there.]

Of course it's her.] What?

[That answer and tone of voice doesn't bother her a bit.] What are you doing?

[What was he doing? It wasn't any of her business, and he's hellbent on letting her know that. Maybe Squall liked a a little privacy once in awhile.]

Minding my own business. [There has to be an objective behind this.] Why?

[She takes a moment to roll her eyes and shake her head. How typical. She translates his answer into - I'm not doing anything, why? - and resumes.] Have you heard of the show that's playing called Swan Song?

[The answer is short and quick, mostly because it's the truth.]

No. [He can almost see where this is going, however. Squall doesn't like it.]

[He might see it coming, but that doesn't stop her from trying to bring this burning train in!] I just heard about it and wanted to check it out. And since you're not doing anything, why don't you come with me?
